The Last of my Irises

A few years back a I was gifted Irises by a neighbor.  I think of her every time they bloom.

Spring has been sporadic this year and last night we were to get frosted.  Since a rain storm had already knocked over a bunch of the Irises, I decided to go out and cut down the remaining Irises and bring them indoors for me to enjoy. (Throwing sheets over Irises without supports to keep the sheets off the Irises is usually bad for the Irises.)

Here's my bouquet last night in the weeds garden.

Here’s my bouquet last night in the weeds garden.  Notice all the buds.

Evidently, bringing them in from the cold causes an explosion of bloom.  Here’s what I woke up to:

Yeah, too much sun. But inside the house was meh. Aren't they bee-you-tee-ful?

Yeah, too much sun in the picture. But inside the house was meh. Aren’t they bee-you-tee-ful? All but a handful of buds burst open overnight.  So I won’t be having these more than a day and a half.  *sigh*  They fill the whole kitchen and dining area with their scent.  It’s wonderful.

On a side note:  This year has been the worst year for June Bugs I have ever seen.  Take a look at this:

Now imagine this many on every screen where there is light. And if it is cold and you have the windows closed the little suckers just bang away on the glass.

Now imagine this many on every screen where there is light. And if it is cold and you have the windows closed the little suckers just bang away on the glass.  It sounds like someone is throwing gravel at your windows.  Yeesh!
